Extensive range of products, demos and collaborations highlight global leadership in substation automation hardware
Advantech, the world’s leader in Industrial IoT, revealed today its participation at this year’s edition of CIGRE, an international technical congress for large electricity grids taking place at the Palais des Congrès in Paris (France), on August 25-30. The 2024 Paris Session is the leading global event for transmission grid experts, with thousands of delegates expected to join from all over the world. The congress represents a best opportunity for engineers in this market to share their experiences and discoveries, network with their peers, and find out the latest technologies that are applied to problems in electricity transmission.
Advantech’s presence at the show will reflect the company’s key position as the leading global supplier of substation automation hardware. Advantech is renowned for its expertise gained through strong partnerships with technology leaders such as Intel, Microsoft, VMware by Broadcom, and technology alliances such as the vPAC Alliance for virtualised protection and control, and the E4S Alliance for secondary substations. CIGRE visitors will find the largest range of hardware to cope with the digitalisation and virtualisation of the electricity grid automation, protection and control – essential for today’s and tomorrow’s networks that incorporate increasingly large percentages of renewable energy sources as well as the greater demands on the supply from electrical mobility.
We will demonstrate on our booth the substation certified (IEC-61850-3) servers ECU-579 and the ECU-4784. Both will run virtualized environments for virtual protection relays and substation automation in partnership with ABB and VMware. Another demonstration is the Edge for Smart Secondary Substation Platform (E4S) run by Advantech in conjunction with Intel, Kalkitech and VMware. This runs on computing hardware with an Advantech Compute-on-Module processor.
In addition to the live demos, visitors can see other substation certified (IEC-61850-3) products, the most powerful fanless substation server in the world, the ECU-479, and the company’s latest Ethernet switch for substations, the EKI-8528G-4XF. Also compliant with IEC-61850-3 are the edge gateways ECU-150, ECU-1370, and ICR-2xxx cellular gateways ideal for IEC-60870-101 to -104 conversion.
“Whether you are an electricity grid operator (TSO, DSO) or a system integrator, or anyone involved in the electricity market segment, we have the products designed to meet your application”, said Paul O’Shaughnessy, Energy & Utilities Sector Head at Advantech. “We invite all visitors to come and meet us at CIGRE’s Paris Session.”
