Advantech High-Efficiency Edge AI Solution with NXP i.MX 95
04-02-2026
Taipei, Taiwan, Feb 2026 – Advantech (2395.TW), a leading provider of edge computing and edge AI solutions, delivers a new high-efficiency solutions for industrial automation with its AOM-5521 (SMARC) and AOM-2521 (OSM) Computer-on-Modules powered by the NXP i.MX 95 processor family. Designed for real-time, low-power industrial edge applications, the modules feature a multi-domain architecture with up to 6 Arm Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 2.0 GHz and a dedicated 2-TOPS NPU optimized for Linux-based AI workloads. This enables concurrent AI inference, vision processing, and deterministic real-time control, making them ideal for machine vision, smart manufacturing, and advanced HMI systems.
New Levels of Performance, Efficiency, and Safety for Industrial Edge
The AOM-5521 and AOM-2521 modules, powered by the NXP i.MX 95 processor, deliver exceptional processing performance ideal for low power, scalable AI, and high-speed connectivity in edge environments. The processor features up to 6 Cortex-A55 cores, an NXP eIQ® Neutron NPU providing up to 2 TOPS, and robust I/O options including 10 GbE. Compared to Cortex-A53, Cortex-A55 delivers up to 4 times higher raw 8-bit matrix-multiply performance, double the data throughput, and 15% greater power efficiency. It also surpasses ASIL-B/SIL-2 functional safety standards and includes an Arm Cortex-M7 MCU for real-time domain applications, along with a Cortex-M33 MCU for critical system safety tasks.
Intelligence in Sight for Advanced Edge AI Applications
The i.MX 95 integrates an NXP Image Signal Processor (ISP) capable of handling up to 500 megapixels/s from 8 image sensors, with support for advanced features like RGB-IR and HDR. A built-in 4K Video Processing Unit (VPU) enables 4K30P H.265/H.264 encoding and decoding, managing up to 32 simultaneous video streams.
Graphics performance is enhanced by the Arm® Mali™ G310 3D GPU, supporting OpenGL® ES 3.2, Vulkan® 1.2, and OpenCL 3.0, key enablers for demanding machine vision applications. A dedicated 2D GPU independently drives 4K displays with multi-stream layering capabilities.
A built-in NXP eIQ® Neutron NPU delivers up to 2 TOPS and works in tandem with the ISP, VPU, and GPU to accelerate and optimize machine vision workloads. Combined, these components enable exceptional performance for edge AI and vision systems.
Support for the NXP eIQ Toolkit allows developers to leverage both open-source and proprietary tools within the SDK and Yocto development environments, streamlining the creation of full system-level applications.
Advanced Ethernet and TSN for Real-Time Industrial Automation
The AOM-5521 and AOM-2521 computer-on-modules provide advanced connectivity with 1 x 10GbE and 2 x 1GbE ports, all supporting Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) to enable deterministic, low-latency communication for real-time industrial automation. This makes them ideal for applications such as autonomous mobile robots (AMR), industrial gateways, and time-sensitive industrial networking solutions.
For high-speed expansion and system integration, the modules feature 2 x PCIe Gen 3.0, 1 x USB 3.0 Type-C (5Gbps) with PHY, and 1 x USB 2.0 with PHY. They also include a rich set of industrial I/O, such as 2 x CAN-FD ports essential for deterministic real-time communication in industrial automation and control systems, delivering robust performance and connectivity for industrial and IoT applications, including automation, networking, and HMI systems.
Advantech’s i.MX 95-based computer-on-module includes AOM-5521 (SMARC), now available for purchase, and AOM-2521 (OSM), which is planned for mass production in 2026 Q2. For further details on Advantech’s Arm computing products and services, please visit risc.advantech.com.
