TREK-60 Rugged Edge AI Platform Connects Roadside Infrastructure and Connected Vehicles for Smart Transportation
7/09/2026

As Smart Transportation evolves toward connected and autonomous mobility, computing platforms must seamlessly bridge roadside infrastructure and connected vehicles. A Taiwanese leading mobility infrastructure solution provider adopted Advantech's TREK-60 Rugged Edge AI Platform to create a standardized C-V2X architecture, where the same rugged platform operates as both an intelligent Roadside Unit (RSU) controller and an onboard computing system for connected public transit vehicles.
Deployed in a large-scale smart transportation demonstration environment for a newly developed city area in New Taipei City, the solution integrates Edge AI, AI vision, V2X communication, and intelligent traffic control to validate real-world connected mobility services. By standardizing both roadside and in-vehicle computing on a common Rugged Edge AI platform, the deployment simplifies system integration while providing a scalable foundation for future Smart Transportation and Smart City initiatives.
Real-world Rugged Edge AI Deployment for Smart Transportation
This deployment includes:
- Bus and ambulance priority arrangement (TSP / Traffic Signal Priority) : with OBU and RSU C-V2X communication, the RSU can arrange the traffic lighting to enhance mission operation efficiency while reducing the possibility of collision due to emergency issues.
- On the other hand, the RSU can provide the information of upcoming traffic light lasting time with the OBU, which allows the bus driver to prepare ahead for the red light to avoid sudden stop.
- The RSU can also provide the road information, temporary construction notice and on-road obstacle alerts for the drivers to avoid possible traffic jam and danger.

TREK-60 Rugged Edge AI Platform Enables Intelligent Roadside Units and Connected Vehicles
Powered by Intel® Core processors, the TREK-60 Rugged Edge AI Platform serves as the standardized computing platform across the entire connected transportation ecosystem. Installed as the computing engine inside Roadside Units (RSUs), TREK-60 integrates AI cameras, roadside sensors, traffic controllers, and V2X communication modules to perform real-time Edge AI inference and roadside perception. The same platform is also deployed onboard connected public transit vehicles, enabling continuous communication between vehicles and roadside infrastructure while supporting real-time traffic information exchange.
Its all-in-one industrial design combines high-performance computing, rich industrial I/O, networking, and V2X connectivity within a single rugged computing platform. It provides reliable operation in outdoor harsh environments with IP65, 5M3 shock and vibration tolerance, -30 ~ 70 °C wide temperature design. Its standardized architecture reduces deployment complexity, simplifies maintenance, enhances operational stability and allows solution providers to efficiently expand intelligent transportation infrastructure across future projects.
Scalable Rugged Edge AI Infrastructure for Future Smart Cities
The deployment demonstrates how a unified Rugged Edge AI platform can connect Roadside Units (RSUs), connected vehicles, and intelligent transportation infrastructure through a standardized architecture.
By combining industrial reliability, Edge AI computing, rich connectivity, and long product lifecycle support, Advantech enables transportation solution providers to build scalable Smart Transportation systems ready for future Smart City development. As C-V2X adoption continues to expand, the TREK-60 platform provides a future-ready computing foundation for connected mobility, intelligent traffic management, and next-generation autonomous transportation.
