Advantech and Universal Robots Showcase Physical AI in Action at iREX 2025

12/4/2025

TOKYO, Japan – December 4, 2025

Advantech, a global leader in industrial IoT and edge computing, and Universal Robots (UR), the world’s leading collaborative robot (cobot) company, are jointly demonstrating Physical AI in Action at the International Robot Exhibition (iREX) 2025. This collaboration validates the seamless integration of high-performance industrial edge computing with UR's collaborative robotics platform, enabling new levels of perception, autonomy, and operational speed to accelerate the global realization of Physical AI in manufacturing automation.

The UR AI Accelerator: Powering Intelligence at the Industrial Edge

The Universal Robots AI Accelerator is a powerful robotics tool engineered to seamlessly integrate advanced AI and machine vision capabilities into UR Series and e-Series cobots. The core of this high-performance solution is Advantech’s MIC-733-AO, an industrial AI computer built on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin. By delivering computational power directly at the edge, the co-validated solution significantly lowers the deployment barrier for manufacturers seeking flexible, AI-driven automation.

“Physical AI is the next era of manufacturing, and our focus is reducing the barriers to adoption,” said Linda Tsai, President of the Intelligent Systems Sector, Advantech. “By integrating Advantech’s scalable edge AI solutions with Universal Robots’s platform, we are streamlining the ability for global manufacturers to implement flexible, advanced, and collaborative automation.”

Live Demonstrations at UR Booth E7-20

Universal Robots will showcase for the first time in Japan two new applications leveraging the UR AI Accelerator:

  •  An AI powered dual arm cable handling application in collaboration with Acumino
  • An AI powered smart gear assembly application in collaboration with AICA

"Our collaboration with Advantech underscores Universal Robots’ commitment to accelerating the adoption of physical AI in manufacturing,” said Jean-Pierre Hathout, President of Universal Robots and President of the Teradyne Robotics Group. “By combining Advantech’s industrial edge computing powered by NVIDIA AI with our cobot platform, we empower manufacturers worldwide to implement flexible, intelligent automation that drives efficiency and innovation."

Additional Physical AI Innovations Across the Show Floor

At booth W3-49, Advantech is also showcasing its broader Physical AI ecosystem through the Advantech × Orbbec demonstrations. Visitors can experience:

  • A humanoid robot demonstration accelerated by Advantech's MIC-742-AT and NVIDIA Jetson Thor, enabling robots to run large generative AI reasoning models and vision-language-action models in real time.
  • The Advantech Solution Pilot AMR DevKit, which empowers developers, OEMs, and solution providers to accelerate the deployment of next-generation autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

The iREX 2025 demonstrations from Advantech and Universal Robots collectively illustrate how Physical AI can be deployed today to increase flexibility, productivity, and responsiveness across manufacturing sectors, laying the foundation for more autonomous, perceptive, and intelligent factories.
