Enhancing Customer Experience with Rugged and Stylish Wayfinding Kiosks

Project Introduction
Located at Xiaomeisha beach, Xiaomeisha SeaWorld is one of the biggest aquariums and theme parks in China. The park has a total of eight buildings to exhibit various sea creatures from different habitats, and four theaters to watch performances of dolphins, sea lions, and many other sea animals. With the aim of providing a better visitor experience, the park installed interactive wayfinding kiosks in the eight exhibition buildings for visitors to view maps, look up show times, watch introduction videos, and find additional information. The original wayfinding kiosks used a more traditional solution composed of one 32"touchscreen and one digital signage box, but the high humidity in the aquarium caused the system to malfunction from time to time. To make matters worse, the original kiosks were broken after only a few months so the customer decided to look at Advantech’s industrial-grade all-in-one touch computers to build a more rugged and attractive replacement kiosk solution.

Xiaomeisha SeaWorld attracts more than one million visitors each year and the number increases annually. The new kiosk system needed to be very powerful to provide the best service and fulfill the needs of each visitor. Equipped with an Intel®Core™ i5-4300U processor, Advantech UTC-532E is a fanless industrial-grade touch computer that provides superior performance and stable operation in heavy use environments.
Because the weather in Shenzhen is hot and stuffy in the summer, some wayfinding kiosks installed inside the aquarium needed to operate at a higher humidity threshold. UTC series AiO computers can operate in humidity of 10 ~ 95% at 40°C and their IP65-rated front panels protect the kiosks from dust and spills. They provided the ideal solution for SeaWorld’s unique environment.
Advantech’s UTC-532 all-in-one touch computer features a beautiful 31.5” 16:9 LCD display that supports 1366 x 768resolution. SeaWorld chose Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touchscreens which can support brighter and sharper images,allowing the wayfinding kiosks to offer more attractive content as well as provide more interactive activities for children.The PCAP touchscreen provides a smooth and instant touch feedback, creating a more pleasant interactive user experience.Its slim design and aluminum frame complement a stylish and sleek look that’s perfect for the environment, and its compact size makes it easy to install in any space.
