Smart Lab Evolution: EKI Device Servers for Next-Gen Connectivity

Bridge trusted legacy analyzers to modern LIS/HIS without costly replacements

The Challenge

CHALLENGE 1: Legacy Analyzers Without Ethernet

rusted instruments often communicate only via RS‑232/422/485. Upgrading them solely for IP connectivity is costly and diminishes the ROI of existing high-value assets.

CHALLENGE 2: Scalability Barriers (One Instrument = One PC)

Scaling is hindered when each analyzer requires a dedicated physical COM port. Modern PCs often lack these ports, making expansion difficult and requiring complex workaround hardware.

CHALLENGE 1: Legacy Analyzers Without Ethernet

Without direct integration to the Laboratory Information System (LIS), laboratories rely on manual data transcription. This disconnect leads to operational delays and significantly increases the risk of human error in patient records.

The Solution: EKI-152x Serial-to-Ethernet Bridge Unlock Secure Connectivity for Trusted Instruments

The EKI-152x series allows laboratories to bypass hardware limitations, delivering data from serial instruments directly to the LIS or HIS (Hospital Information System).

Choose the mode that fits your system architecture:

Mode A: Virtual COM Mode (For Legacy LIS)

  • Ideal for: LIS platforms limited to reading local COM ports.
  • How it works: A lightweight driver creates "Virtual COM" ports on the workstation. The LIS operates as usual, while data is seamlessly tunneled over Ethernet.
  • Benefit: Plug‑and‑play simplicity that preserves existing software workflows.

Mode B: TCP Server / Client Mode (For Modern LIS)

  • Ideal for: Modern LIS platforms designed for IP‑based data exchange.
  • How it works: The EKI server acts as a network node, allowing the LIS to connect directly via IP address and Port.
  • Benefit: Greater stability, easier troubleshooting, and effortless deployment across different network subnets.
