ARK & IEC-62443 – Securing CNC Machines for the EU Cyber Resilience Act

Project Background
There is consistently high demand for CNC machines in Japan, the USA, and China. However, when geopolitics become complicated and competition intensifies, CNC and similar machine manufacturers worldwide look for alternative high-demand but more stable markets to expand into. In our customer’s case, they aim to enter the European Union. As digital transformation accelerates, cybersecurity has become more critical than ever. In response, the European Parliament passed the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which applies to non-European manufacturers selling or offering products with digital elements in the EU market. As a result, our customer has approached us with new projects in the EU, seeking support for future CRA compliance. Their project requires high-performance processors capable of running multi-axis CNC machines while simultaneously enabling behavior and data monitoring.
Customer’s Pain Points
Europe is renowned for its automotive manufacturing expertise. As CNC-machined parts and components become more intricate, machines with more axes and greater performance are needed to produce complex shapes and features in a single setup. Additionally, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), coming into effect in 2027, presents a major challenge for our customer. The regulation is complex and unfamiliar to many machine manufacturers, making it difficult for them to fully understand and comply with its requirements.
