Advantech products are enhanced by features which improve availability as well as serviceability and usability. Advanced platform features include redundant images and fail safe updates which are built into Advantech‘s dedicated Carrier Grade BIOS and IPMI firmware.
Our IPMI implementation has been designed from ground up with the goals of being small, secure and robust. It is fully compliant to industry specifications like IPMI v2.0 and DCMI v1.5, and offers extensions like SNMP or Redfish beyond an easy-to-use web interface. A great level of modularity allows to easily enable/disable features, completely remove unused functionality for further security hardening or add special features required by OEMs.

Advanced platform features include redundant images and fail safe updates using a single industry standard protocol (HPM.1) which are built into Advantech‘s dedicated Carrier Grade BIOS and IPMI firmware.
Intelligent Platform Management (IPMI)
Basic IPMI Features
- IPMI 2.0, DCMIv1.5, HPM.1, HPM.2 compliant BMC design
- Extensive communication interface options e.g. KCS, RMCP, IPMB, CLI, SSH, SNMP, Web GUI
- Large Sensor Event Log (SEL)
Advanced & Custom IPMI Features
- Web GUI (HTML5)
- Fail-safe BIOS and BMC FW updates with redundant images and automatic recovery
- Remote upgrade via industry standard protocol (HPM.1)
- SNMP MIB and Trap support
- Extended troubleshooting and debug features
Security
- BMC FW is based on up-to-date Long-Term-Support (LTS) kernel from kernel.org
- Small code footprint leads to less potential vulnerabilities and reduced boot time compared to other solutions
- Secure web-browser based iKVM* does not require client software
-
Insecure protocols (e.g. telnet, http) or ciphers are disabled and replaced with secure alternatives such as ssh or https
- Extensive hardening options (disable unused interfaces/command sets)
- iKVM (remote keyboard/video/mouse) available on selected platforms only
QuickStart Linux Image (QSL)
CentOS* or Ubuntu* based OS image and user guide allow quick and effortless evaluation and integration
-
Platform specific drivers (Chipset, NICs, IPMI, etc.) BIOS and BMC update utilities
- Monitoring software (Server iManager, lm-sensors, ipmitool, …)
- Offline Diagnostics
- Advanced LAN Bypass
- LCD module control
-
