Getting Started: Cross-Site Remote Management for ADAM Modbus I/O with EdgeHub

14/07/2025
ADAM Secure Cloud IO

1. I’m an existing Modbus ADAM I/O OT user without a cloud setup and have only used the Utility for local management. How can I achieve cross-site device management using the same Utility across different sites or network domains?

Yes, you can. Even without a cloud system in place, you can achieve cross-site device management using ADAM Ethernet I/O modules that support Modbus TCP. Simply install the latest Advantech I/O Module Utility and firmware, then register for an EdgeHub account—no additional cloud infrastructure is needed. This setup allows you to bind and remotely manage ADAM I/O modules across different sites through a single interface, streamlining operations without altering your existing architecture.

2. What is EdgeHub, and how does it relate to ADAM I/O and the Utility?

EdgeHub is Advantech’s cloud platform that helps you manage devices across different sites. It’s designed to make edge device connectivity, remote monitoring, and data management easier—all in one place. For ADAM Ethernet I/O users, the latest Advantech I/O Module Utility is empowered by EdgeHub. Simply update the Utility and firmware, create an EdgeHub account, and bind your devices to enable remote management across sites.

3. I’m not familiar with IT infrastructure and don’t want to change how I work, can I still use this feature?

Yes, you can. It is designed with simplicity in mind—you don’t need any IT background or changes to your current workflow. All management features are built into the same interface you're already used to, so you can continue working as usual while gaining the ability to manage ADAM I/O devices remotely across sites

4. Is it secure to manage ADAM I/O devices through EdgeHub?

Yes, security is built into every layer. To ensure industrial-grade protection, the system includes:

  • X.509 certificate-based authentication for trusted identity verification
  • TLS-encrypted data transmission to prevent interception and tampering
  • Allowlisting controls to block unauthorized access by only permitting approved devices or users

These features work together to deliver a secure and reliable environment for remote and cross-site I/O management—so you can confidently manage your operations without compromise.

5. What is the key benefit of using EdgeHub for ADAM I/O management?

The key benefit is reduced on-site maintenance cost. With EdgeHub empowering the Advantech I/O Module Utility, users can remotely monitor, configure, and manage ADAM I/O devices across multiple locations—all through the same familiar interface. This eliminates the need for frequent on-site visits, helping you save time, reduce labor, and lower overall operational costs.

6. Can I enable the feature with my existing Advantech I/O Module Utility?

Yes. If you are new to Advantech I/O Module Utility, you may install the latest utility and firmware in 3 simple steps.

  • Step 1. Download the Advantech I/O module Utility via this link (After V2.07.00)
  • Step 2. Download the firmware file from selecting based on your device model.
  • Step 3. Install and execute the Utility, then upgrade the ADAM I/O to the latest firmware.

Note: Use the Firmware tab to upgrade an ADAM module, or for multiple ADAM modules, easily upgrade all your devices at once by clicking 'Group Configuration' (Right-click Ethernet -> Group Configuration).

7. After installing the latest firmware, how to get started with EdgeHub?

Step 1. Click “EdgeHub” in left device tree area, then click “Create EdgeHub Account”

Step 2. Fill in the required details then click “Register”, you will receive the log in password via email.

Step 3. After logging into your EdgeHub account, bind all ADAM I/O to EdgeHub using the utility during each site installation. After binding, you can manage all connected ADAM I/O across sites seamlessly through the utility. For more details, refer to "Learn Tips."

8. When you say “device management,” does this include the equipment connected to ADAM modules?

No, it doesn’t. In this context, “device management” refers specifically to managing the ADAM I/O modules, not the end equipment (such as sensors, relays, or machines) connected to them. EdgeHub empowers remote, cross-site management of ADAM devices only—including their configuration, status monitoring, and network connectivity—not the downstream equipment they control.

9. Other than device management, can I also achieve data management with EdgeHub? Are there any additional features?

Yes! In addition to remote ADAM device management, EdgeHub offers advanced features such as Private Network setup, Data Management, and Data Storage—giving you greater control and flexibility for your industrial IoT deployment. These capabilities help you centralize data, enhance system security, and streamline integration with cloud services or third-party platforms.
