How To - CPU Installation Guide

2005-07-07 Installation Document No.1-16812196

Solution:

  • CPU Installation

    CPU Installation

You can upgrade to a higher power Pentium processor at any time. Simply remove
the old CPU, install the new one, and set the jumpers for the new CPU type and
    speed.

    I. Installation Instruction

    1. Locate the zero insertion force (ZIF) socket-7 for the processor. On the
socket and on the processor, identify the pin 1 corner. You can identify the
pin 1 corner by noting that in the rectangular matrix of pins and holes on the
socket and processor, one pin and one hole is absent on the pin 1 corner.
    2. Push the socket locking lever away from the socket to unhook it. Swing the
    lever into the upright position.
    3. Insert the processor into the socket taking care that you have matched the
pin 1 corners. No force is required, and the processor should seat smoothly
    into the socket.
    4. Swing the locking lever down and hook it under the latch on the side of the
socket to lock it in place.

    II. Installation Notice

    1. Always disconnect the power cord from your chassis before you begin working
on it. Do not make connections while the power is on because sensitive
electronic components can be damaged by the sudden rush of power. Only
experienced electronics personnel should open the PC chassis.
    2. Always ground yourself to remove any static charge before touching the CPU
board. Modern electronic devices are very sensitive to static electric charges.
Use a grounding wrist strap at all times. Place all electronic components on a
static-dissipative surface or in a static-shielded bag when they are not in the
    chassis.

    III. Jumper Setting Information

Some jumpers need to be checked before installing a CPU on POS-562. For more
detail information, see section 2.5 on POS-562 manual.
