Statement on Participation in Climate Change Org
7/23/2023
【Overview of Advantech's participation in climate change-related organizations】
Advantech has been participating in climate change-related organizations since 2022 and has actively engaged in workshops, lectures, trainings, and initiatives as a corporate member. (For specific details on climate change-related organizations or initiatives, please refer to the 2023 Sustainability Report, Appendix 5: List of Public Associations Participated and Description of Investing in Resources). As of December 2023, Advantech has participated in a total of 9 organizations related to climate change. These organizations cover various issues, such as fulfilling corporate sustainability responsibilities to support and protect biodiversity, responding to the use of renewable energy, participating in the corporate sustainability community to acquire the latest sustainability knowledge, and focus on climate change issues and corporate actions related to them.
【Advantech's management mechanism and core values for participation in climate-change-related organizations】
Regarding the Paris-Aligned lobbying:
As awareness of climate change issues continues to grow, Advantech has developed a comprehensive plan to address these concerns. This includes a climate change strategy, a vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions, a description of Advantech's response to climate change, and a track record of gradual progress in this area. Furthermore, Advantech actively supports the Paris Agreement's initiative to limit global warming to well below 1.5°C, aligning with the aforementioned plan. In 2024, we would renew the SBTi applictaion based on 1.5°C to showcase our commitment and ambition on the Net Zero vision. Although Advantech does not directly involved in climate lobbying, if the Company wants to engage in climate lobbying in the future, the Company would apply the same standards and statement to ensure that it complies with the Paris Agreement.
Regarding the management mechanism of trade associations on climate change related engagement:
In terms of managing participation in climate-change-related organizations and lobbying activities, Advantech's ESG Office screens and identifies public associations or non-profit organizations that align with the principles of sustainability and support the goals and spirit of the Paris Agreement. The office reports to senior executives responsible for sustainability issues, plan resource allocation, and participate in seminars, workshops, and lectures on climate change as planned. When necessary, relevant Advantech executives, including the members (such as CEO, Chairperson, President, and/or senior executives)of Sustainability Committee and the ESG Office, may participate in activities or initiatives related to climate change. Advantech actively engages in acquiring new knowledge on corporate sustainability and climate change, and collaborates with benchmark companies to strengthen its ability to fulfill the commitments outlined in the Paris Agreement.
Advantech will cease supporting and engaging in any form of association or involvement if it is discovered that the chosen trade associations or non-profit organizations are inconsistent with our stance on climate change or do not align with the goals and principles of the Paris Agreement. Or the Advantech would release public statements distancing the Company from the misalignment, engagement with the trade associations with clear timelines and an escalation process if unsuccessful. The review and monitoring process would conduct whenever new associations are joined and would encourage the trade associations, non profit organizations, non government organizations support the Paris Agreement through it lobbying, advocacy and public policy engagements based on the local context.
