1. Intelligent Video Traffic Monitoring for Self-Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System
Urban areas with intersecting roads and diverse types of vehicles, such as cars, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians, face significant challenges in managing traffic flow and ensuring safety. Effective traffic signal control is crucial to avoid congestion and reduce traffic-related accidents. Traditional traffic detection methods, including ultrasonic, microwave radar, or infrared sensors, are either too expensive or lack the detail necessary for comprehensive traffic monitoring. Video detection systems, enhanced with artificial intelligence (AI), provide a solution by generating essential traffic metadata. This metadata includes information such as vehicle counts, directions, and waiting times, which are critical for optimizing traffic flow.
2. AI Image Detection Automatically Recognizes Pedestrians and Vehicles - Improving Wait Times at Major Intersections
Fixed Timer Controls on Traffic Lights Increase Waiting Getting stuck at a red light on an otherwise empty street is a scenario familiar to people who drive at night on major roads. This phenomenon occurs when traffic lights are set to timers adjusted for peak daylight hours to accommodate the usual hustle and bustle. Traffic lights’ lengthy countdowns exist to provide enough time for pedestrians to safely cross wide roads. Such arrangements are necessary during the day but become burdensome around midnight when fewer pedestrians and vehicles traverse the streets. Because of fixed timers, adjusted to daylight traffic, drivers on major arterial roads might find themselves waiting needlessly for extended periods.
3. Vision Positioning Solution for Wafer Cleaning
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is a thriving market aimed at enhancing transportation safety, efficiency, communication, and traffic management. In 2018, a central administration authority tendered a National Traffic Management System to improve road safety and capacity, while enhancing traffic monitoring. This project covered almost 30% of the country's major roads, totaling over 1,000 km, making it one of Europe's largest ITS project. A leading system integrator won the tender to implement the Regional ITS System in a significant region, covering major highways and establishing a Traffic Management Center. The project, with a budget of approximately 20 million Euros and a timeline of over two years, was recently completed. The integrator specializes in ITS and smart city solutions with over 30 years of experience.
4. Rolling Stock Total Solution Helps Reduce Terror Attacks and Accidents in Trains
Railway transportation (high-speed rail, mass rapid transits, subways, light railways, etc.) is still the most popular method of commuting in most cities around the world. However, according to statistics from the Mineta Transportation Institute in San Jose, California, there have been more than 300 major terror attacks on railways over the past half century resulting in the loss of countless lives. This shocking statistic doesn’t include the many near misses, which makes passenger safety a top priority for railway operators worldwide. With today’s powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, railway operators are able to achieve active monitoring and prediction using the latest AI inference techniques so that the safety and security of their passengers is guaranteed.
5. Robust AI Edge Platform Safely Guards Railway Crossings
Artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G networking have revolutionized transportation applications. They have enabled and empowered many smart functions such as visual recognition, deep learning, low-latency communication, and many diverse intelligent applications for safer, more convenient transportation infrastructures. In Taiwan, there are more than 400 railway crossings on roads, unfortunately there are also hundreds of crossing accidents, causing many fatalities and injuries every year. Railroad barriers are not closed by default and if they do not fully close when needed, they could cause at best, unintentional delays and at worst, terrible accidents. Manpower alone cannot guarantee safety at level crossings so a new project was setup that applied technology to the problem and came up with an application that used video analytics to tackle the issue. The solution needed to take into account geographic conditions, weather conditions, and driver blind spots to improve safety at entrances to level crossings.
6. Explore More Applications for Smart Road & In-Vehicle Solutions
Advantech's Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) utilize advanced technologies such as AI, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), and robust cybersecurity measures to enhance urban traffic management. These systems dynamically adjust traffic signals based on real-time data, improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, and enhancing efficiency and safety.
