SOM-2533

Taipei, July, 2023 – Advantech, a leading provider of embedded IoT solutions, is excited to announce the launch of SOM-2533. This is a high-performance module from the SMARC series, featuring Intel’s Core™i, Pentium®, Celeron®, and Atom® x7000 processors. The SOM-2533 module supports up to 8 cores, resulting in improved CPU performance by 1.4x, graphics performance by 2x, and AI performance by 3.5x compared to previous generations, as per Intel’s research findings. The SOM-2533 module comes with integrated LPDDR5 on-board memory, dual 2.5G LAN with TSN, and a dual CANBUS interface. These features enhance end-to-end communication and ensure compatibility with the previous generation. Additionally, the module includes one SERDES interface for additional LAN requirements and TPM 2.0 for enhanced system security. In addition to hardware capabilities, Advantech offers various software components to expedite system development which includes SUSI API (iManager), Yocto BSP, and Ubuntu OSi. Each standard SKU of SOM-2533 also comes with DeviceOn, enabling remote management and reducing labor costs up to 50%. With its significant computational power, comprehensive I/O support, and cutting-edge design-in service, SOM-2533 is an excellent choice for medical, industrial control, transportation, and automation applications.

The First Atom Series to Support Intel® Core™ i3

The i3-N305, TDP@9/15W is the most powerful processor in the Atom® segment with support for up to 8 cores and a 26% increase in burst frequency. These enhancements enable significant improvements across CPU, GPU, IBECC DDR5 RAM, and AI performance. As a result, SOM-2533 has emerged as a formidable performer in automation and transportation applications, delivering swift deployment, low latency, and precise inference. SOM-2533 also embraces the latest LPDDR5 memory technology, offering a higher speed of 4800 MT/s compared to the previous generation’s 3200 MT/s. By harnessing the combined power of these groundbreaking technologies, SOM-2533 stands as the epitome of a cost-efficient and high-performance module for mainstream applications at the edge.

Configuration Flexibility Bridges Hardware Upgrade Gaps

Control area network (CAN) plays a crucial role in transportation and automation, facilitating direct communication between connected devices and ensuring reliable operation and scalability. With SOM-2533, you have access to a dual CANBUS interface that caters to specific requirements. With a corresponding design on the customer side, CAN-FD can support speeds of up to 5 MB/s. In addition to its CAN capabilities, SOM-2533 is designed with dual 2.5G LAN ports with TSN enabled and on-board eMMC storage up to 64GB to offer faster data transmission with low latency in automation or industrial control. To maximize the configuration flexibility, SOM-2533 reserves one extra SERDES interface for a third LAN port option. Furthermore, it features four PCIe Gen 3 x1 slots, which can be configured as dual PCIe x2 or x4 slots. Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 and SATA Gen 3 interfaces can also be adapted to accommodate the specific functions or features required for various applications.

OTA Update Backup for BIOS Recovery

Advantech DeviceOn simplifies remote management implementation, making it a breeze. One popular feature is OTA (over the air) updates, which allows for BIOS or software updates to be performed on up to a hundred devices with just one click. This not only saves a significant amount of labor cost but also ensures efficient and streamlined updates. In the event of a failed remote BIOS update, iManager on SOM-2533 will be triggered and switch the boot BIOS to the backup. The crashed BIOS will then re-flash automatically. This redundancy mechanism, combined with OTA updates, proves invaluable in preventing system downtime.
