Outdoor Signage Rises in Importance in the New Restaurant Industry


The restaurant industry was among the hardest-hit when it comes to businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the effects continue to linger. 

Prior to February 2020, according to the National Restaurant Association, 59 percent of U.S. adults went out for dinner at a sit-down or quick-service restaurant at least once a week. At the height of pandemic-related lockdowns, that figure had fallen to just 16 percent. Even with vaccines becoming widely available and capacity restrictions being lifted, that figure has risen to just 37 percent, well below pre-pandemic levels. More than 110,000 restaurants in the United States closed during the pandemic, either temporarily or permanently. 

To survive, many restaurants added additional channels through which to serve their guests. Even as the pandemic begins to subside, it’s becoming apparent that these new channels will remain a part of restaurant operations for the foreseeable future. 

And with these changes creating a potential traffic nightmare for restaurant operators, outdoor digital signage offers a way to ease the transition.
