Advantech Certified Peripherals Comply with IEC 62368-1
New safety standard IEC 62368-1 replacing IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065
The IEC 62368-1 safety standard is set to replace the outgoing IEC 60950-1 standard for information and communication technology (ICT) and the IEC 60065 standard for audio/video (A/V) equipment. IEC 62368-1 adopts Hazard-Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) principles to transform safety perspectives from “incident based” to “hazard based” assessments and to safeguard flexibility for designers while ensuring safety for end users. IEC 62368-1 features significant technical revisions aimed at allowing standards to keep up with fast-paced technology innovation.
Status of 62368-1 in the US, EU and other territories
On December 20, 2020, EN 62368-1 and UL 62368-1 will become the mandatory safety standard for audio, visual, information and communication equipment for Europe and North America markets respectively.
In North America, UL will proceed with a soft transition wherein existing certified products meeting current standards will not be subjected to an Industry File Review (IFR). In Europe, the transition will immediately require the new EN 62368-1 standard.
Committees in other regions are still evaluating adoption of 62368-1. This includes China, South Korea, and South America. It is expected 62368-1 will gradually be implemented as the latest standard across these regions as well.
In order to facilitate a smooth transition based on requirements for the latest safety standard in Europe and North America, PAPS has reviewed all peripheral product lines to ensure product upgrade status and will announce product changes/phase-outs to users accordingly if needed. This is especially true for power supplies, which are highly affected by the new safety standards. Enclosed is a detailed transition schedule of each effected product line.
