New Advantech, EcoPhi Partnership to Advance Substation Digitalization with Edge Intelligence and Industry-Leading Sampling Rates
2025/7/18
The joint solution delivers intelligent grid monitoring through a modular, scalable architecture with seamless SCADA connectivity.
Cincinnati, Ohio – July 28, 2025 – Advantech, a global leader in industrial Internet of Things (IoT) hardware and edge computing platforms, and EcoPhi, a pioneer in substation digitalization, are excited to announce a new partnership delivering a powerful joint solution for accelerating grid modernization. Th e integrated platform empowers grid operators and systems integrators to deploy advanced edge intelligence and predictive analytics into operations, enabling real-time visibility, preventative fault detection, and optimized grid performance.
Designed to withstand the rigorous demands of substation environments, the combined Advantech and EcoPhi solution offers capabilities like fault prediction, power quality monitoring, and seamless integration with any SCADA system. Its modular and scalable architecture makes it ideal for utilities seeking a future - ready digital infrastructure.
At the grid’s edge, EcoPhi’s QMU 800 merging unit delivers industry - leading sampling frequency for fast transients, enabling precise fault detection, enhanced power quality analysis, and real - time operational insights. Capable of simultaneously reading up to six feeders — with 24 analog inputs, and 96 digital I/O — the QMU 800 supports Partial Discharge Monitoring, PMU functionality, and Dynamic Line Rating. Configurable to sampling rates of 4.8kHz, 14.4kHz, 28 .8kHz, and up to 2MHz, the device ensures maximum flexibility and precision for critical grid operations. It also complies with IEC 61850 9 - 2 LE and IEC 61869 - 9, enabling both power quality and revenue - grade metering applications.
"Our customers tell us they need one thing above all else: actionable, real - time intelligence at the grid’s edge. Together with Advantech, EcoPhi is delivering exactly that,” said Ebrahim Balouji, CEO of EcoPhi. “Digital substations demand real - time edge intelligence, pairing EcoPhi’s high - frequency QMU 800 and CMPC 800 with Advantech’s platforms for virtualize protection, monitoring, and analytics in one modular package, giving utilities sub - millisecond insight and the power to predict failures before outages occur."
Complementing the merging unit, the EcoPhi CMPC 800 serves as the centralized edge processing platform. Supporting up to 90 circuits of SMVs, the CMPC 800 provides grid - wide visibility and high - resolution analysis. It supports a comprehensive suite of advanced applications, including Anomaly Detection, Explainable AI Fault Prediction, Virtual Power Quality Monitoring (vPQM), Virtual Phasor Measurement Units (vPMU), Digital Fault Recording (DFR), Virtual Partial discharge monitoring (vPD), and Virtualized Protection. With 2MHz high - resolution sampling, it can identify early - stage faults within critical grid assets, such as lines, cables, transformers, and generators weeks before failure. Its built - in compatibility with SCADA systems ensures a seamless path to full digital integration.
“The EcoPhi partnership is key in the Advantech digitalization strategy for building the next generation of substations,” said Scott Burk, Utilities Sales Specialist at Advantech. “With industry - leading predictive maintenance AI insight to increase overall reliability and operation times, and minimize failures and downtime, coupled with cybersecurity and server virtualization, we are changing the way substations will be built and operated in the future to address the increased power demands.”
